WHO CAN SCHOOP?
There is no such thing as a model Schoop’s partner. Dave Sharp, whose family owns four Schoop’s, worked in a steel mill. The Mascarello family, which also own four Schoop’s, installed and built decks. Tom Markovich and Larry Farris own three Schoop’s. Tom is a retired Hammond firefighter, and Larry is a former over-the-road truckdriver.
The Sharps, Mascarellos and all successful Schoop’s franchisees are simply ambitious, self-motivated people who believe in the Schoop’s vision.
Previous restaurant experience is certainly a plus, but it’s not a must. Schoop’s owners have directly trained several successful franchisees who had no restaurant experience. To open a Schoop’s, you simply need to have enough money and enough drive.
MOST LIKELY TO SCHOOP…
Schoop’s started in 1948 in Hammond, Ind., the heart of the industrial Calumet Region of Indiana and Illinois. Generations of “Region” people think of Schoop’s and immediately smile. It’s possible that some of the first to step forward in the “Time to Share Schoop’s” campaign may be former Region folk who have moved away.
